One of the best ways to make your house a home is to bring in some life from outside of your home. This can take shape in many forms, but I find such joy in living plants and artwork that reflects nature scenes.
When you scatter plants and plant/nature art throughout your home, it provides your eye with something to rest on and admire for a brief moment in your day. A focal point that relaxes your mind and draws you into Yah’s perfect creation, even when you are unable to actually be immersed in it outside at that time.
Ideally, I try to add an element of plant life either in real form or an image in every room of the house. It keeps each room from feeling cold and isolated, but rather warm and inviting.
Hanging plants are definitely my favorite. They fill out blank space on a wall, and are out of reach from pets and eager toddlers. They draw your attention upward and really round out the whole room.
I make plant hangers out of macrame cord which is not only affordable and fun to make, but so unique and beautiful and ties in with my other natural materials in my home decor.
Plant life has not only been scientifically proven to lower your stress levels when gazed upon (thanks Yahweh) but something about that green pigment is so healing to the soul when looked upon.
I bought 2 large pothos plants that are hanging in my dining room and living room, and from those I have taken many cuttings and placed them in water in pretty glass jars and vases in various areas of my home.
They grow very easily and within a couple weeks you will have additional root growth on those cuttings to either just keep in the jars with water or you can transplant into soil to grow a whole new large planter over the next several weeks.
Every one likes a good windowsill plant, and I am no exception. I am very grateful to have a large window behind my kitchen sink so the mundane daily activity of dish washing can be accompanied by a welcomed visual distraction. I further like to add plants to the kitchen windowsill as they enjoy the bright rays of sunshine pouring in in the mornings and late afternoon.
I find great joy in awakening to a vibrant plant at the base of my bed to greet me with a new day where Yahweh’s mercies are renewed again once more. HalleluYah!
And there is something so timeless and special about bringing a flower from your yard into your home and onto the kitchen table, as to capture Yah’s nature of intentionality and curated beauty.
Even the bathroom should not be left an empty wash room, but should also bustle with life and visuals of Yah’s creation.
So you may think you can’t have house plants because you’ll kill them eventually or there is no where to put them (my many thoughts), but I can assure you that in time you will find pockets of space to be their home and they will brighten your day each time you walk into the room.
It’s very possible these joyous feelings will lead to more and more plant and art editions to your home, and before long you will have created a living environment that is lovely, lively, and an integrative part of our overall healing as humans.
